Wild Trout Blog

The Boise River Fishery began in March of 2007 as a means of gathering support for regulation changes on the lower Boise River. My objective was, and still is, to protect the river’s wild trout population and to create a quality destination for anglers. Since its inception, the site has expanded into a “Wild Trout Blog”. Photographs, information, and thoughts on fly fishing for trout and steelhead are now posted for the benefit of others who, like myself, are passionate about the sport.

Wintergreen

Ever since the Boise River saw 1200cfs in the middle of January, it has been running off color.  Not the muddy spring runoff associated with high water and snow melt, but an Owyhee River green.  The difference is the browns in the Boise don't know how to react to this.

I drove up to Diversion dam at lunch today.  The water above the dam is clear, and the flow coming out of the southwest side below is green.  There is a lot of old moss covering the dam, but this just isn't normal for winter.

Do you know the answer to when this crud will clear up?

Steve,
My son and had had good fishing in the green 1/21 at 300CFS, trout and WF. Trout rising as well where we were. Don't ask me where, but trust me. I think it will clear well when H20 levels remain constant, and it doesn't seem to be suspended/disloved silt, just algea, my take.
